A NOTORIOUS criminal of Bihar, linked to Maoist Communist Centre (MCC), carrying a reward of Rs 2500 on his head, was gunned down by cops near the railway track in Lahartara area under the Sigra police station in the wee hours of Wednesday. Police recovered a 32 bore domestic carbine, a country-made pistol and empty and live cartridges from the scene.
An accomplice of the slain criminal managed to flee the scene, taking advantage of darkness.
The deceased was identified as Pappu Bind, a resident of Bhabhuwa in Bihar. He was wanted in several cases of dacoity, kidnapping and extortion in Bihar.
Briefing mediapersons here on Wednesday afternoon, senior superintendent of police Ashutosh Pandey said cops of Sigra police station led by SO Shivanand Mishra were on patrol when they got a tip off that two suspected criminals were about to traverse from Manduadeeh to Cantt area along the narrow road adjacent to the railway track.
Cops soon reached the area and laid a trap to nab the suspects for checking. At around 3.45 am, they spotted two persons going on foot from Manduadeeh to Lahartara road.
When the cops signalled them to stop, one of them started firing on the police team.

{{/usCountry}}In self defence, cops too opened fire as a result of which one of the miscreants was shot dead while another fled the scene.
Later, the deceased was identified as Pappu Bind alias Pintoo Sahni, a resident of Baheria village under Chand police station of Bhabhuwa district in Bihar.
The SSP announced a cash reward of Rs 2500 to the police team and two suitcases to the constables- Manoj Pandey and Rajkumar Bhardwaj for playing key role in the operation.
Stabbed to death: A 50-year-old man was stabbed to death by unidentified men outside his house in Tanda Kala village under Baluwa police station of Chandauli district on Tuesday night. The deceased was identified as Kishre Mallah.
Police have arrested one of the accused and recovered the knife used in the murder.
