At a time Union home ministry (MHA) has almost finalised its new anti-Maoist strategy, violence in Maoist-affected states is continuing with its downward trend of the last five years, according to the latest data available with the MHA.
According to sources, under the new anti-Maoist strategy, the government is focusing on development with an initiative to create developmental hubs in the worst affected areas. These hubs will have latest heath facilities and educational institutions.
Besides, the government plans to raise around 20,000 more men in the paramilitary ranks for anti-Maoists operations exclusively.
By pushing states for more coordinated approach against Maoists, the ministry has also managed to continue with downward trend in the Maoist violence.
“This year, till September 30, we have got reports of 834 incidents and 241 deaths. Last year for the same period, 288 deaths were reported,” said a home ministry official requesting anonymity.
According to data available the MHA and reviewed by HT, in 2013, all Maoist-affected states reported 1,136 incidents in which 397 people lost their lives.
“By the end of this year, the overall incident and causality figure will be at 15 percent less than last year,” added the official.
