Rajdev Yadav alias Dev Narayan Yadav was the Koel-Sankh zone Committee commander who surrendered yesterday, Palamau Superintendent of Police, Anup Mathew said.

Yadav joined a naxalite outfit among several operating in Bihar in 1995 and immediately rose to the rank of area commander at Manatu-Pratapur in Palamau division. After formation of CPI(Maoist) with the merger of all underground naxalite groups in 2004, he became its zonal commander in 2009 and was active at Chek area in Plamau’s Manatu.

Yadav told the police that he had surrendered because he was not happy with the Maoists’ approach to solving the problems of the society, the police super said.

He was involved in an attack on a police party in 2005, besides being named in thirteen other Maoist-related incidents.

As per Jharkhand’s surrender policy, Yadav was given Rs one lakh immediately and later he would get Rs five lakh after the approval of a resettlement committee, he said.

Yadav’s surrender comes close on the heels of a woman Maoist turning in before Ramgarh SP Hemant Toppo earlier this week. She was a member of a guerrilla squad and was unhappy with the CPI (Maosit’s) violent ideology.
