SPECIAL OPERATIONS Group (SOG) of the district police arrested a criminal from near Muslim Musafir Khana under Cantonment police station on Thursday. Police recovered 22 live cartages and an AK 47 rifle which were to be supplied to Maoists activists.

Following a tip-off, the SOG rushed to Muslim Musafir Khana and arrested Seraj Khan of Aurangabad village, under Salempur police station in Deoria district.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to his involvement in supply of arms to the Maoist area commander. According to police, Seraj was living in Balrampur district and was running a property dealer’s office. Seraj said and his friend Raju Khan had planned to start a rice business.
They handed over Rs 80 lakh to Zulfiqar of Bareilly district, but no rice was supplied.
According to police, Khan reached Bareilly and demanded return of the amount, but Zulfiqar said the currency, which was given to him, was fake. Expressing his anguish, Seraj said he narrated the story to Sanjay, an area commander of Maoists, who laterd arrange a meeting with area commander Shambhu alias Vinod, residing in Rampur district.
Seraj said Shambhu had provided Rs 10,000 and asked him to supply arms and ammunition to Maoist activists.
