THE MP Council of Science and Technology filed a complaint of cheating against a representative of the NGO Spandan, Anil Soumitra, alleging that he took grants from council by allegedly furnishing false documents.

The complaint of cheating was filed at the Kamla Nagar police station. Though investigations are on, the police have yet to register a case. The MAPCOST, in its complaint, said Soumitra had presented a research project worth Rs 3,80,000 to the MAPCOST on January 30, 2003 by claiming him as the president of Spandan. The council gave him a grant of Rs 65,000 against a sanction of Rs one lakh.
However, upon receiving complaints, the council later sought information on Spandan from the office of Registrar of Firms. It was found out that Soumitra was not the president of the organisation on the date of proposal presentation. The president of the organisation at that time was one R S Shrivastava.
According to MAPCOST press release, this information proved that Soumitra provided false documents and information to the council for seeking grants and thus a complaint was filed against him. The council also blacklisted Spandan and the SP and other persons concerned were also intimated about activities of Spandan to forewarn them about any possible cheating.
