The 22.7-kilometre long New Delhi–Dwarka premium line — expected to ferry commuters from New delhi Railway Station to the international airport in 18 minutes flat — will be mapped on Geographic Information System (GIS).

In simpler terms, every service along this line — fire stations, police stations, hospitals, schools, buildings, railway track — will be available online for metro officials.

“This will help mobilise emergency services in a timely and effective manner,” a senior Delhi Airport Metro Express Pvt Ltd (DAMEPL) official said.

“In case there is a fire (on the train), the exact location of the nearest fire station can be easily established with the help of the GIS map. This will ensure a speedy response.”

DAMEPL is a Reliance Infrastructure Limited-led special purpose vehicle (SPV), created to start the Airport Express line.

No other metro line in Delhi has been mapped on GIS.

The DAMEPL officials said the technology will also enable efficient maintenance of the Metro line.

The assets, tracks and stations are all geographically dispersed. With the help of the GIS maps, the exact location of the fault along the network can be determined and maintenance team can be dispatched immediately,” an official said.
