MAKHANLAL NATIONAL Journalism University vice-chancellor Prof Achyutanand Mishra said various means of mass communication were controlling the world. He was delivering the inaugural lecture of a new session of the Madan Mohan Malviya Institute of Hindi Journalism at the Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth on Monday.

He was delivering the inaugural lecture of a new session of the Madan Mohan Malviya Institute of Hindi Journalism at the Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth on Monday.

Prof Mishra, who is also former editor of the Jansatta and the Navbharat Times, said a journalist should always be associated with social concerns. “A journalist should always try to fulfill the expectations of the society,” he said.

“A balanced mix of professionalism and missionary zeal can enable you to become the most successful journalist of the world,” he said.

Prof Mishra, a recipient of the Yash Bharti Award, said journalism was always a mission for those associated with social concerns. He said the mass media had witnessed enormous changes in the last few decades and now there was greater competition and opportunities.

He said that today’s journalism was different from that of yesteryears. “Earlier, we were imparted knowledge. Now, there is a flow of enormous information which is being considered knowledge,” he said, adding, “We will have to understand the difference between knowledge and the flow of information.”

Senior scribe Vijay Kumar urged budding journalists to lay greater emphasis on language. Another senior scribe Aku Srivastava gave valuable tips to become a successful journalist. Madan Mohan Malviya Institute of Hindi Journalism director Prof Ram Mohan Pathak welcomed the guests.

Prof Om Prakash Singh proposed a vote of thanks.
