The Moharram processions were taken out peacefully amidst tight security. People from various parts of the district thronged the streets to have a glimpse of the tazias at Golghar, Ghosh Company, Mian Bazar, Reti Chowk and Nakhas crossing.
Daises were erected by the traders to welcome the processions coming from the outskirts at Golghar crossing. Similarly, the Quami Ekta Committee had set up a dais at Nakhas crossing and the traders of Buxipur had built a grand stage at Buxipur crossing to welcome the procession and to handle the situation.
The youths were shouting ‘Islam Zindabad’ and commemorating the sacrifices of Imam Husain and his 72 followers and family members at Karbala.
The tazia processions, which started early on Thursday morning, continued throughout the night before burial at Karbala.
Processions from Shahpur, Gita Vatika, Saraya Pokhra, Basharatapur, North Jatepur, Chaksa Husain, Sumer Sagar, Gehuan Sagar, Bin Tola and other areas were a major attraction for the people. A huge rush was witnessed on the street throughout the night and the police personnel were on their toes to maintain law and order.

{{/usCountry}}Cabinet minister Harishanker Tiwari, state minister Jaiprakash Yadav, director of Minorities Welfare Corporation Zafar Amin Dakku, district unit president of SP Chandrabali Yadav and SP city unit president Zia-ul-Islam also welcomed the Moharram processions at Golghar and Nakhas Chowk. They appealed to people to maintain communal harmony.
The traders’ community had put up a sabeel (stall providing lemonade) for the people at different places. BSP leader Ashok Srivastav welcomed the Mian Sahib procession at Karbala and appealed to the people to take a lesson from the sacrifices made by Imam Husain and his followers for humanity, social justice and the spirit of religion.
