THE CALL for Damoh bandh to protest against rape of a minor and tardy investigation in the incident today evoked massive response with even the roadside tea and eateries shops remaining closed. Meanwhile, Damoh Collector, Ragvendar Singh on Friday gave Rs 5000 ex gratia to the rape victim undergoing treatment.

Also, the investigation officer in the rape case has been changed. Now Tendukheda police station in-charge inspector L N Tiwari would investigate the rape case instead of Patera police station in-charge K L Vikram.

The Hindu Jagrati Manch – a confederation of different religious and social organisations— gave call for the bandh. According to reports reaching here, petrol and diesel filling stations and cinema halls remained closed for better part of the day. Almost all the schools remained closed in Damoh.

Meanwhile, the Manch has announced that there would not be any let up in it tough stance till the rapists are brought to the book. It has announced that for the time being it would carry on an hour protest (6 to 7 pm) daily near Damoh Clock Tower till the guilty are arrested.
