Something has been going wrong in the KMC for a long time, it seems. Reason: Even after saving 2000 litres of diesel, the dumpers and loaders continue to ply with the same pace and working in the same capacity.

The entire exercise was a consequence of Municipal Commissioner Badal Chatterjee’s vehicle being refused fuel by petrol pump owners due to long-pending bills. According to the KMC officials, one petrol pump had to be given about Rs 2.62 crore, while the other petrol pump had to be given Rs 1.48 crore.

It was only when Chatterjee assured them of payment in installments that petrol pumps resumed services to the KMC. In the meantime, municipal commissioner Badal Chatterjee deputed an employee at the Naubasta crossing to check the number of vehicles plying in the city for garbage clearing. He also directed that no fuel bill if presented without the recommendation of Assistant Nagar Swastha Adhikari, would be passed.
