About 3200 people from the Lakshadweep Islands were given Medical treatment by the Southern Naval Command during a four day camp at the Union Territory.
The camp was held from Nov 8-12, a Naval press release said.
Residents of Minicoy, Kalpeni, Androth and Agatti Islands were provided with specialist medical consultation and care. The training of basic life support conducted at educational instituties there with mannequin was a big draw as the modern gadget had the facility to give instant feedbacks on the effectiveness of the life support administered.
Literature prepared by INHS Sanjivani on practical aspects of Medical care was distributed amongst the local populace.
Underscoring the importance the Navy attaches to the activity Vice Admiral K N Sushil, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command attended the valedictory function conducted at Agatti on Nov 12. The Admiral in his address to the gathering assured the residents of the Indian Navy's committment to the Lakshadweep Islands at all times. The Camp Commandant Surgeon Commander, J Sridhar acknowledged the active support of the Lakshadweep Administration in the conduct of the Camp.
The Camp organized by the Kochi based Indian Naval Hospital Ship Sanjivani was led by Surgeon Commodore Girish Gupta, Commanding Officer. The medical team comprising of about 20 personnel including specialist doctors (Physician, Pediatrician, Neonatologist, Gynecologist, Dermatologist,Dental Surgeon, ophthalmologist and Radiologist) spent four rigorous but satisfying days with the Islanders, addressing not only their medical problems but also imparting basic life saving training to the personnel there.
