The maternal mortality ratio (MMR) has registered a sharp decline of 17.74% in Haryana, state health minister Rao Narender Singh said on Wednesday.

He attributed this to the various initiatives taken by the state government to promote institutional deliveries.

Stating that as per data released by the Registrar General of India, the MMR in Haryana had come down from 186 in 2004-05 to 153 per one lakh live births in 2009-10 as compared to national average of 212.
