He is tall, powerfully built, and gives a ball a real hard whack. MatthewHayden first hogged the limelight during the last Australian tour of India. His performance in that series was nothing less than magic.
His average in both Tests and one-dayers was nothing short of phenomenal. He scored 119 and 28 not out in the first Test, 97 and 67 in the second and 203 and 35 in the third Test for an average of 110.
The one striking feature of his batting is his remarkable strokeplay. He is very strong whether it comes to hooking, pulling, slashing or thunderous driving. In last few months after Mark Waugh was axed from the ODI’s, he has been around and scoring heavily that has rocketed his one-day average around 43.
In Tests, his success in opening with Justin Langer in the last 18 months is astounding. In New Zealand and South Africa last year, he cracked four centuries and produce a world-record four double century partnerships in a single season with Langer.
On a given day, he can tear any bowlijng attack into shreds and in last few one-dayers, he has established his place in the one-day squad.
Besides that he is a good athlete in the field. He has a fabulous pair of hands.
