"Congress is committed to bring Dr Ambedkar's guiding principles into reality... However, Mayawati government has not shown any such commitment. She is only busy erecting her own statues all over the state, while neglecting her duties," he told reporters in Varanasi after paying tribute to the father of the constitution on his 120th birth anniversary.

Comparing the government machinery in UP with the "mafia" working under the BSP, the Congress general secretary said, "The officers who refuse to follow the diktat of the mafia are killed. Recent murder of two chief medical officers serving in the Family Welfare Department proves the point."

"Mayawati should take stern action against the culprits. But she is not doing so, as she herself is involved in it," he alleged.

On Congress' preparedness for the next year Assembly polls in the state, Singh said Congress would contest the election with "full commitment."

The party would announce the names of the candidates by May 31, he added.
