The appointment of 7,400 constables was also cancelled, taking the toll of dismissed constables to over 18,000. The suspended constables included 1,900 of the PAC and 1,200 of the Police Radio department.

Principal Secretary, Home, JN Chamber told journalists that FIRs would be lodged against the suspended IPS officers and disciplinary action would be taken against them.

Those suspended on the basis of the Shailja Kant Mishra inquiry committee report are: VK Bhalla, ADG; KK Saxena and AD Mishra, both IGs; Malkhan Singh, Prabhat Kumar and VK Agarwal, all DIGs; and GK Goswami, SP.

Chamber said the process of fresh recruitment for the posts that have fallen vacant as a result of the cancellation made by 18 recruitment boards would soon be started.

On September 11, the state government had annulled 6,504 recruitments and suspended 12 IPS officers. A week later, 3,964 more policemen were dismissed and six IPS officers were placed under suspension on charges of irregularities in the selection process.
