The orders came during a mayoral inspection tour in the morning to review the ongoing pre-monsoon nullah cleaning drive organised by the IMC Health Department. The Mayor was accompanied by Mayor-in-Council member in-charge of Health Rajendra Rathore and Waterworks in-charge Munnalal Yadav.

Upon reaching the eastern Ring Road near Velocity theatre, the Mayor was dismayed to find a large number of encroachments dotting the nullah that runs from Meghdoot Nagar to MR-10 via Khajrana.

Residents of nearby Solanki Nagar, who gathered at the spot upon learning of the Mayor’s arrival, complained that the encroachments impeded the flow of rainwater resulting in their locality becoming flooded during rains.

The residents further charged that a coloniser who was developing a residential neighbourhood in the area was the biggest offender and had practically usurped the nullah’s entire catchment area. After giving them a patient hearing Dr Sharma ordered accompanying officials to construct three-feet wide tracks adjoining the colony’s boundary wall. She instructed Health Department officials to improve rainwater flow by removing the three damaged footbridges that were clogging the nullah.
