Being built at a cost of Rs 1.28 crore, the hydrants will allow tankers to draw water thus reducing burden on the Narmada pipeline which, until now, was used to fill the water-bearing vehicles.

According to an official statement, the hydrants will help provide nearly 70 lakh litres of water every day allowing 500-600 tankers of water to be ferried to parched localities across the City.

The Mayor was accompanied by Mayor-in-Council member incharge of waterworks department Munnalal Yadav, Municipal Commissioner Vinod Sharma and Narmada project executive engineer SN Tiwari during the tour.

Earlier, IMC staffers seized 17 motors that were being used to draw water directly from supply lines. The motors were seized from Nehru Nagar, Tilak Nagar, Mooskahedi, Ram Nagar Panchsheel Nagar and Tulsi Nagar areas. Municipal Commissioner Vinod Sharma has appealed to residents to immediately report instances of booster pumps being used to draw water from mains to the IMC Control Room at 2535555.
