District judge Shiv Charan Sharma admitted the petition and fixed December 19 as the next date of hearing. The court also issued notices to all the opposite parties listed in the petition. The DM , the polling officer and all other mayoral candidates have been arraigned as opposite parties in the election petition.

Ahmad has demanded re-polling or recounting of votes alleging that there has been illegality in the counting of votes. He said the winning candidate had not secured the votes that were counted in his favour and the votes polled in favour of the Congress Party were not counted. He said that the district administration had been functioning under the influence of the state government. Ahmad also submitted that the chief election officer was hand in glove with the state government.

HC on unclaimed bodies

TAKING SERIOUS note of the incident where an unclaimed dead body was thrown into a river by a Faizabad cop after investigations and post mortem, Justice Abdul Mateen of the High Court asked the Principal Secretary (Home) to either file a response by November 29 or appear in person in the court on the day. He has also been asked to apprise the court about the procedure to dispose unclaimed bodies in the State and as to whether any funds were allocated for the purpose.

It was urged on behalf of the complainant that human rights of a person did not end with his or her death and everyone had a right to be cremated as per the religious rites and customs. The plea also said it was the responsibility of the State to ensure that it was done in proper manner. The matter will come up for hearing on November 29.
