MCD officials could not pull down illegal constructions on the Mehrauli-Gurgaon road, where several fashionable shopping malls are located, after BJP workers staged a sit-in to protest the demolition drive in village areas.

Attacking Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, president of Delhi unit of BJP demanded dismissal of her Government and holding of snap polls in Capital, saying she has failed to fulfil her duties and responsibilities.

The drive was disrupted on Friday after several residents of adjoining villages gathered in the area and threatened to resort to violence, forcing the civic body officials to return from the scene. The officials later sealed four properties.

Elsewhere, demolition squads of the civic body pulled down 19 unauthorised residential and commercial properties, taking the total number of such structures against which action had been taken to cross 1200.
