Residents of G block in DLF Phase I finally have a reason to rejoice. The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has cleared encroachment on the green belt and set the ball rolling to set up a park there. The civic body has already fenced the land to ward off violators.
The MCG, in association with NGOs, had built the more than 576-acre Bio-diversity Park on MG Road near DLF City Phase 3. The proposed park would be its extension. While a liquor vend operates illegally on one side of G block, also within the restricted area of 150 meters near a school (The Learning Lighthouse), jhuggi clusters have mushroomed on the other side since MG Road was connected to the Gurgaon-Faridabad road.
Residents say they had been raising the issue of illegal construction, groundwater extraction and unauthorised electricity connections with the MCG since 2007. The encroachment on the green belt and the Aravalli range are in direct violation of court directives.
"We are very happy. The encroachers were a nuisance. We hope that the situation will improve soon as the idea to construct a park here is a great idea. We are ready to extend all possible support to the MCG for its construction," said Sumeet Goswami, a resident.
On Friday, residents of G Block would meet the MCG commissioner to extend their support for the proposed park.
