Taking note of frequent complaints about garbage pile up, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has asked its officials to take stern action against the contractors who fail to carry out sanitation works.
The MCG has sent letters to private societies and the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) asking them to tighten noose on the contractors assigned by them for garbage disposal.
"We do not want to see garbage lying unattended on vacant places anywhere. It poses a threat to environment and maligns the image of the city," said Sudhir Rajpal, commissioner, MCG.
The commissioner on Monday held a meeting in which all the concerned officials, including joint commissioner YS Gupta, and sanitation in-charge Aruna Sangwan were present. They have been advised to take strong action against the contractors of private societies, Huda sectors and MCG areas.
"We are trying to make sure the contractors dispose garbage at Bandhwari, which has been developed as solid waste management plant. But most of the contractors are not doing this," said Rajpal, adding that he has been closely watching the effect of the notice issued by the civic body recently.
According to Aruna Sangwan, sanitation in-charge, MCG, the corporation cannot take action if such things happen outside MCG areas as "we do not know who the contractors are and what areas they have been assigned with and what are their vehicles' numbers etc".

{{/usCountry}}In its notice, the MCG has also asked private societies and Huda to install GPS device on vehicles used for sanitation works. MCG has already started installing GPS device on the vehicles of its own contractors.
