In a bid to overcome confusion due to existence of multiple government authorities and agencies in the city, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) and Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) will soon come up with separate citizens’ charters for the convenience of residents.
These will clearly identify the departments, officials as well as demarcate geographical areas for easy addressal of problems.
Orders to this effect were issued on Tuesday by Haryana chief secretary Urvashi Gulati who held a meeting with Gurgaon divisional commissioner TK Sharma and the deputy commissioner of Chandigarh through video conferencing.
She also directed the administration to make provision for auditoriums and other venues such as Gymkhana clubs for hosting cultural and social events.
Sudhir Rajpal, municipal commissioner, said the work of preparing the citizen’s charter would be done in collaboration with Huda.
“This citizen’s charter would not only clearly clarify the departments, agencies and officials for various kinds of services, it would also demarcate the geographical territories in which the agencies function. In addition to common people, the new ‘guidebook’ would also be helpful for the newly elected municipal councillors. It would help them know their responsibilities and address the grievances of people in their ward.”
While the Gurgaon district is spread over 1,183 sq kms, the MCG jurisdiction is confined to around 170 sq kms and it does not include the Industrial Model Township of Manesar.

{{/usCountry}}Apart from the district administration, a number of agencies such as Huda, Haryana State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC), Public Works Department, MCG, Public Health Department and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam operate. These agencies are in addition to private developers who are incharge of the maintenance of respective townships.
