The administration has set the ball rolling to consolidate the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) and set up a single office at Vyapar Sadan in Sector 14. At present, the civic body operates from two buildings — at Civil Lines with the MCG commissioner's office and Sadar where the citizens' facility centre and tax and accounts departments are located — besides the offices of mayors.
To begin with, the engineering department has submitted a plan to the electricity department to relocate a high tension wire at the site, opposite Gurgaon Government College on Mehrauli Road. A construction estimate will be prepared in a month's time to be sent to head office in Chandigarh for final approval.
"After the wire is shifted, we will survey the site for facilities such as roads, sewers, water lines and parking lots," said BS Singroha, chief engineer, MCG.
The Vyapar Sadan is spread over nearly 7 acres. Out of that, 2.5 acres will be allocated for the upcoming office and 1.5 acres for the residence-cum-offices of the Gurgaon mayor, senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor.
"We had a meeting with MCG commissioner Sudhir Rajpal in this regard recently and he agreed to give his consent for the new office at Vyapar Sadan instead of Silokhara in Sector 30," said Yashpal Batra, senior deputy mayor, adding that he had raised the issue twice in house meeting since September 2012.
A total of 916 officials are employed with the civic body but the number of employees that will shifted to the proposed facility will be clear after estimates are prepared by the engineering department, said a senior official.
