The incident happened in Hira Nagar, when supporters of a particular candidate tried to put up posters in a rival's area.

This is the latest case of violence that have so far marred the MCG elections.

According to police, supporters of independent candidate Mukesh Dagar from ward No. 19, who is contesting against Davender Yadav, allegedly pasted posters of Dagar over the ones showing Yadav.

When Yadav's supporters saw this and tried to prevent the other group from defacing Yadav's posters, things turned ugly. Both groups started fighting and in the melee, a constable was also injured.

When police personnel arrived at the scene, the partyworkers pelted stones at the cops.

According to police, Dagar's supporters tried to kill Yadav. Police also recovered four live cartridges form the spot.

DCP (west) Maheshwari Dayal has registered a case against the supporters of Dagar under the Arms Act, as per a complaint filed by Yadav.

Recently, a candidate of the MCG elections and his associate were shot at by unknown persons near the old municipal corporation office.
