The newly set up multi-specialty hospital in Gurgaon's in Sector 38 -- the Rs 1,000-crore Medanta Medicity promoted by cardiac surgeon Dr Naresh Trehan — has dropped its plans to set up a rooftop helipad citing safety and security reasons.
In the event of emergency, the hospital will instead use helipads already set up in the adjoining Tau Devi Lal Sports Stadium and drive patients to its facility, hospital authorities said.
The hospital has plans to later set up a helipad on a vacant plot in its 43-acre campus. It will soon apply to the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for a formal approval.
District fire officer H S Sihag said the security scene post-26/11 had forced the hospital authorities to wind up its ambitious plan.
Sunil Sachdeva, the co-promoter Medanta, told Hindustan Times that it had wound up its earlier plan of setting up of a rooftop helipad.
"The decision to this effect was taken on account of safety and security of the patients," he added.
When asked whether the DGCA had turned down its request for a rooftop helipad, Sachdeva said the hospital never applied.
