They were participating in a seminar on ‘Cultural Values and Media’ organised by the Mahamana Madan Mohan Malviya Institute of Hindi Journalism, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth (MGKV) on Friday.

Former editor of Jansatta (Kolkata) Arvind Chauturved, who was the chief guest at the function, said no civilisation could survive in the absence of culture. He said media played a significant role in cultural exchange and was an effective tool in checking cultural devaluation in society.

Head of the Journalism and Mass Communication Department at MGKV Dr Anil Upadhyay said there was a great challenge before the media to check decline in cultural values. “The media is required to be alert to protect the glorious cultural heritage of our country,” he said.

Director of Mahamana Madan Mohan Malviya Institute of Hindi Journalism Prof Ram Mohan Pathak said society would have to co-operate with the media to safeguard the country’s cultural values.
