A total of 180 resident doctors, 100 interns and 300 medical students of Goa Medical College have joined the strike, said Paresh Dessai, Public Relations Officer of Goa Association of Resident Doctors.

"This is a 24-hour token strike to protest police excesses against doctors in Mumbai", he added.

Dessai said that agitation against the reservation issue would be chalked out later in consultation with Indian Medical Association and All India Resident Doctors' Association.

As part of the strike, agitators took out a rally and would hold a sit-in at the GMC premises later in the day.
