Total strike today

IN THE face of determination showed by the government in implementing OBC quota, over 300 students and junior doctors of MLN Medical College performed hawan and prayed to the Almighty on Wednesday to give some wisdom to the Congress leaders.
A large number of students of Allahabad University, engineering college, degree and intermediate colleges also participated in the hawan and Hanuman Chalisa Path on the SRN Hospital campus. Further hardening their stand over the quota issue the junior doctors also decided to observe a total strike and cripple all the emergency services on Thursday.
JDA president Dr Neeraj said the hawan was performed for Manmohan Singh so that he could act prudently on the quota issue.
"Due to his failure in taking a clear stand on the OBC quota this situation has emerged. The Prime Minister needs to take decision considering general interest and not out of political compulsions. But still to awaken the government and sensitise people towards the issue a total nation-wide strike would be observed on Thursday," he added.
Meanwhile the indefinite hunger strike by the medical college students entered the second day on Wednesday. As many as 16 undergraduate and postgraduate students and junior doctors sat on hunger strike to show their protest against the government's policy to divide the society on quota basis.

They were led by junior doctors Rajesh Wycom, Anand Banka, Rahul Menon and Deeksha Kaushal.
The medical college students also started publicity campaign for their proposed Maharally on May 28. They held meetings with students of degree colleges and Allahabad University, local residents, professionals and businessmen.
"The Maharally would start from SRN Hospital and conclude at the DM's residence. The medical college students would also meet the Commissioner and hand over a memorandum to him. We are getting immense support from different sections of the society in our agitation against the OBC quota. Many local people have also committed to remain present in the Maharally," informed Dr Neeraj.
However, due to ongoing agitation of junior doctors about 40 per cent patients at the SRN Hospital shifted to private hospitals and nursing homes. The condition of a few more patients deteriorated on Wednesday in the absence of proper care.
These patients were immediately rushed to the other speciality hospitals.
