"The medicos stir against the extension of the MBBS course by one year is being politicised. When there is no agitation by medicos in other states, why is it being held in this state only?" PMK founder S Ramadoss asked.

Addressing a press conference in Chennai on Tuesday, he also demanded to know how the government had allowed leaders of various parties to address the agitating students inside the Madras Medical College.

Ramadoss said he had refrained from making any comments so far on various issues concerning the health ministry, including the AIIMS issue as the Health Minister himself had handled them.

"Now I have been compelled to do so as the stir is being politicised," the PMK leader said.

The proposal envisaged students to work in rural areas and in hospitals in towns and districts for four months each, during which they would be paid Rs 8,000 per month, he added.
