UPSET OVER the proposal of the Union Government to enhance reservation at Central government funded higher academic institutes and alleged manhandling of medical students in New Delhi and Mumbai, the medicos of Banaras Hindu University will observe a one-day strike and boycott all medical services at Sir Sunderlal Hospital in BHU on Monday.
The undergraduate and post-graduate students of the Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS-BHU) under the banner of Resident Doctors Association (RDA) have decided to boycott all medical services including out patient ward (OPD), intensive care unit (ICU) and emergency services at Sir Sunderlal Hospital in BHU on Monday to register their protest against the alleged ‘appeasement policy’ of the UPA government.
The medical students of IMS-BHU have also forwarded a letter to the BHU Vice-Chancellor, IMS director and Medical Superintendent of SS Hospital informing them about the Monday’s strike against reservation policy and recent lathi-charge on medical students in New Delhi and Mumbai.
“Eyeing the elections, the HRD Minister Arjun Singh gave statements that will not only affect the present of young generation but will affect the future of India as a whole. The reservations are dividing the nation. The merit is lost among the reservations”, said the letter adding “We the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) strongly condemn these recent happenings and we (undergraduates and postgraduates) have decided to go on a strike on Monday since 8 am”.
Besides, the medicos would also take out a rally from IMS gate to Vishwanath Temple in BHU to protest the Union government’s proposal to enhance reservation from existing 22 per cent to 49.5 per cent for OBCs in Central-government funded higher academic institutes. The medical students are also in touch with students of other higher academic institutes of the city such as Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, Udai Pratap Degree College, Sampurnanand Sanskrit University and Harishchandra Degree College to voice their protest.
Meanwhile, students of the Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth took out a procession and burnt the effigy of Union Human Resource Development Minister, Arjun Singh at Maldahiya crossing here on Saturday.
