THE AGITATING medicos of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) kicked off an ‘anti-reservation sewa yatra’ here on Monday afternoon. They are now planning to get support from the rural population.
Moreover, the doctors even closed their own parallel OPD which had been operating since the last two weeks on the Sir Sunderlal Hospital premises in BHU from today. “Now we want to utilise our energy to intensify our agitation and that was why we withdrew parallel OPD services from today,” said the doctors.
A group of 30 undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS-BHU) led by Dr Mithilesh Pandey, Dr Ankur Singh and Dr Animesh Kumar kicked off the yatra under the banner of Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) from IMS premises in BHU.
The medicos visited villages such as Dafi and Susuwahi and told the people about the adverse effects of the quota policy. Gram pradhans under the banner of Mahapanchayat have extended their support through a letter forwarded to the striking doctors.
“Around 73 per cent of the population resides in villages and, therefore, the government should chalk out village-oriented policies,” said general secretary of RDA, Dr Mahesh P Kate adding, the villagers needed better infrastructure and primary education rather than reservation in higher academic institutes.

{{/usCountry}}Medical services at the SS Hospital remained affected. Many patients have migrated from SS Hospital to other private clinics in Lanka area.
The closure of the parallel OPD has added to the plight of the patients.
The ongoing relay hunger strike entered its ninth day as five medical students including Dr Nandini, Dr Prashant Singh, Dr Girish, Dr Anil Tripathi and Dr Vaibhav Pandey continued their 48-hour relay hunger strike on the second consecutive day today.

THE ANTI-RESERVATION agitation by students of the S.N. Medical College, Agra, is gaining momentum. Medical students performed a mock cremation of Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh’s effigy. They blamed Singh for pushing his ideas for political gains.
The students took out a procession from the college premises to the new emergency wing at MG Road.
They raised slogans against reservation on the basis of caste. “There is a need to upgrade facilities from the primary level. But, there is no logic in providing this arbitrary reservation.” Students also took out a signature campaign in Sadar Bazaar area of the city. They secured the support of 3,000 people.
The junior doctors said the signature campaign would continue.
