The games are slated in Guwahati between October 7 and 14. In the fifth national games in Hyderabad, Madhya Pradesh contingent fared pretty badly, winning just 26 medals, including three gold, 8 silver and 15 bronze. That was the State’s worst performance in all the five national games.

This time round, the Sports department is keen to improve upon the previous medal tally. To this end, the department has called a meeting with the MP Olympic Association (MPOA) on April 5.

The department is keen to earn more number of medals in the national games. Madhya Pradesh had won highest number of medals in third national games in Manipur where its players earned 37 medals, including seven gold, 12 silver and 18 bronze.
Since third national games, the medal tally gradually decreased.

The selection will be conducted in presence of a selector from sports association and a selector from the Sports department.

“The objective for organising trials is to call players well before the national games and select the best out of them in respective games,” said Director, Sports Sanjay Chaudhary.

After the selection, the department will organise two coaching camps— one in May and second in September. “I have seen that players after getting selected could not find support to sustain the fitness level till the national games. The
proposed coaching camps will provide them proper time to improve their game,” said Chaudhary.

The selection trials will be conducted in all the disciplines listed in the national games, including equestrian, shooting, boxing, weightlifting, athletics and others.
