The sub-committee was formed through a Mayor-in-Council (MiC) resolution after clerical staff complained that much of their time was lost in answering separately tendered petitions that were virtually facsimiles of each other.

As per the proposal, the sub-committee to be headed by MiC member Munnalal Yadav, will filter applications to check repetition before forwarding them to the Municipal Commissioner.

Chief medical health officer DR AK Puranik has been appointed secretary of the committee, which will also include MiC members Devkrishna Sankhla, Sapna Chauhan, Additional Municipal Commissioner Purushottam and six staffers representing the various SC workers’ unions. The Corporation’s SC workers are divided into various unions, each of which pleads its case separately although their demands are almost identical.

The resultant duplication results are loss of time and money. For instance, the Corporation may receive three different petitions from as many unions calling for payment of arrears within a given month.
