At least 11 Union ministers, including finance minister Arun Jaitley and the chief ministers of 17 states, are expected to show up for the Skill India launch on Wednesday. The meet will be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
HT had earlier reported that Wednesday’s launch of the National Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship 2015 would also see the rollout of the flagship Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikash Yojana (PMKVY) on an all-India basis. The government is also expected to focus on the Northeast, Kashmir and the Maoist-affected areas.
Picking July 15 as the date for the launch is to accord significance to the first ever World Youth Skills Day on the same day. “The effort of the campaign will also be to match to the international demand in a parallel manner,” said Rajiv Pratap Rudy, minister, skill development and entrepreneurship.
Rudy asserted that Indian mining companies have requested for workers like crane operators, loading operators etc. from Peru, giving them a high remuneration. “Since 2012, India has issued 123 employment visas to such workers from Peru,” he said, underlining the fact that such workers could have been available in India itself.

{{/usCountry}}“The ‘Skill Loan’ initiative will be launched at the event, where loans from `5,000-1.5 lakhs will be available to more than 34 lakh youth of India, who seek to attend skill development programmes, over the next five years,” an official release said.
