In Dillon, the West Indies might have finally found a worthy replacement to fill the hefty bowling shoes of Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh.

Tall, and possessing great athleticism, "Big Merv" is a powerful weapon in the side's offensive

armoury and is likely to spearhead their pace attack for quite some time.

Dillon first broke into the Test side in 1997 and claimed a five-wicket haul in his third outing

against Pakistan in the same year.

He made a less spectacular start to his one-day career which also began in 1997, but grew in stature

to finish behind Walsh as his country's leading bowler in the 1999 World Cup.

Now Dillon is the top dog and possibly the best seamer in the Caribbean will be looking to take pole

position this time around.

In 2002, Dillon edged out some top competition in the form of world double-record holder Brian Lara

to be named Trinidad & Tobago's Cricketer of the Year after becoming the only full-fledged active

West Indian bowler to achieve 100 Test wickets.
