Metro ready to roll into Noida

THE METRO will roll into Noida by June 2009. On Tuesday, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) signed an MoU with the Noida Authority, its first with an NCR town, and promised to complete the project well before the Commonwealth Games.

THE METRO will roll into Noida by June 2009. On Tuesday, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) signed an MoU with the Noida Authority, its first with an NCR town, and promised to complete the project well before the Commonwealth Games.

To be built at a cost of Rs 736 crore, the Noida line will link commuters to Rithala, Connaught Place and Kashmere Gate. East Delhi localities like IP Estate, the upcoming Games Village, Mayur Vihar Phase-I and Phase-I extension will also be catered to by this line. Noida commuters will be able to travel to Dwarka Sector 22 in one hour and 45 minutes.

"The airport extension will be complete by 2009. So, Metro commuters from Noida will have easy access to the airport and the railway station," said DMRC director (planning and projects) C.B.K. Rao. Once it reaches Noida, we will plan further extensions." The Dwarka Sector-22 station is planned at a distance of 1.5 km from the IGI Airport.

"At present, the Metro network is up to Dwarka Sector-9. We will add two more stations in sectors 8 and 22," said DMRC chief spokesperson Anuj Dayal. Six stations are proposed in Noida -- in Sector 15, Sector 16, Sector 18, National Botanical Garden (Sector 37 crossing), Noida Golf Course and Noida City Centre in Sector 32.

The Noida Authority will bear 85 per cent of the project cost.
