THE Mayor-in-Council (MiC) voted to restart the stalled Nanda Nagar infrastructure development scheme expected to cost around Rs 2 crore at a meeting on Tuesday evening. The ten-member council also okayed a proposal extending the Bond Road Scheme by eight kilometres from the original 12 km. The revised project is likely to cost approximately Rs 60 crore.
A proposal to set up seven hawkers’ zones at a cost of Rs 1.47 crore also received a green signal from the council, which also gave the go-ahead for revoking the pre-paid parking policy with effect from April 1. A Rs 15.94-lakh proposal to connect the Kamla Nehru zoo to the adjoining Qaidi Bagh and construction of a bridge over the nullah also met with the council’s approval.
Sensitive to uproarious protests over the intermittent use of Nehru Stadium for political programmes, the MiC on Tuesday decreed that henceforth the venue be reserved exclusively for sporting activities.
Public works in charge Lalit Porwal, GAD in charge Lal Bahadur Verma and waterworks in charge Munnalal Yadav did not attend the meet held at the mayoral residence. In all 14 items were listed on the MiC agenda.

Mayor Uma Shashi Sharma constituted a committee comprising health in charge Rajendra Rathore, waterworks in charge Munnalal Yadav and Devkrishna Sankhla to probe both alternatives and a final decision will be taken after the trio submits its report.

{{/usCountry}}Elaborating on the hawkers’ zones proposal, the Mayor said the proposal was in keeping with the Centre’s directives on providing a sales platform to the unorganised retail sector. The zones would be set up at Dwarkapuri, Navlakha, Dussehra Maidan and Raj Mohalla among other places, she added.
The MiC also sanctioned payment of social security to 850 people found to be bona fide beneficiaries during a recent meeting. Mayor-in-Council members Anil Bindal, Rajendra Rathore, Devkrishna Sankhla, Sapna Chauhan and Shanta Jhanwar as well as senior officials were present during the meet.
