Microbiologists? meet from today

THE 47TH annual conference of the Association of Microbiologists of India (AMI) would be hosted by the Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics Centre of the Barkatullah University between December 6 and 8.

The annual conference – a prestigious event to be held for the first time in central India – would be organised on the theme ‘Microbiology: Challenges Ahead’.

About 1,000 delegates from across the country and a dozen foreign experts would deliberate on various aspects of advancements in the field of microbiology.

Eminent plant biotechnologist and Fellow of National Academy Prof H Y Mohan Ram would inaugurate the conference at 10 am on December 6 at Gyan Vigyan Bhavan, Barkatullah University.

Addressing a press conference on the eve of conference, AMI national president B S Kundu said the conference on future challenges is of vital importance since microbial biotechnology plays an important role in microbial process industry, food processing, bio-energy, environmental management, agriculture, medicine, veterinary science and other fields.

Organising secretary & head of department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics Centre Dr Anil Prakash said to create awareness about microbiology, a poster competition for higher secondary students and science undergraduates was organised.

About 60 entries have been received and these posters would be displayed in an exhibition at the venue.

Research papers on newer studies in the field would be presented during the three-day course and summarised during the concluding session, he added.

The new aspects coming out of the deliberations would be forwarded to related agencies in the form of recommendations.

Union Department of Biotechnology senior advisor Dr S Natesh would be the chief guest at the valedictory session at 3 pm on December 8.
