The software giant's good showing is yet another broad indication that corporates have started to spend more on technology whereas business expenditure were crimped in the wake of the financial crisis.

The company had raked in a profit of $ 3.05 billion in the comparable period, it said in a statement on Thursday.

On the back of robust product portfolio, Microsoft saw its fourth-quarter revenues climb to $ 16.04 billion as compared to the same period a year ago.

"We saw strong sales execution across all our businesses, particularly in the enterprise with Windows 7 and Office 2010," Microsoft's Chief Operating Officer Kevin Turner said.

The firm launched Office 2010 in the second quarter. Moreover, the entity witnessed good showing of existing products including Windows 7, Windows Server and Xbox.

Till date, more than 175 million licences of Windows 7 have been sold.

Microsoft's Chief Financial Officer Peter Klein said the revenue growth, combined with ongoing cost discipline, helped the company in having another quarter of margin expansion.
