"A grenade was hurled by militants towards a moving vehicle carrying SHO Nowgam Nazir Ahmad at around 6 pm," sources said.
The grenade, however, missed the intended target and exploded on the roadside without causing any harm.
The whole area was cordoned off following the incident, and a search operation launched to nab the militants involved in the attack.
No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the incident.
