Militant killed in gunbattle

Two major gunbattles between militants and security forces are on in central and south Kashmir's Budgam and Pulwama districts. One militant has been killed so far in Budgam encounter. An exchange of fire between militants and security forces started in the morning at Hashru village.

Two major gunbattles between militants and security forces are on in central and south Kashmir's Budgam and Pulwama districts. One militant has been killed so far in Budgam encounter.


An exchange of fire between militants and security forces started in the morning at Hashru village. The militants, whose number is believed to be more than one, are holed up inside a residential area.

A top police official confirmed death of a militant, who is believed to be a non-local. The army, police's special operation and CRPF were battling militant till last reports came in.

Budgam area, 30 km away from Srinagar, has been witnessing sporadic firing from militants in the last three days. A major search operation was launched in Budgam district two days ago after three militants were arrested in Srinagar. However, the militants gave a slip to security forces on two occasions.

Budgam district witnessed two major attacks in the last two months, which left an SHO and a CRPF jawan dead.

In a separate encounter, more than 50 km south of Srinagar, security forces are engaged in a fierce gunbattle at Tral village. The encounter started at village Wagad Gadpora at around 4:30 am. A number of militants are suspected to be hiding in the residential area.
