The miscreants tried to abduct the sub-editor of A popular vernacular daily, Huiyen Landapao, K Manikanta Singh late last night while he was returning home after duty, sources said.

Sources said while Singh was trying to lock the gate, three militants with torchlight tried to kidnap him but the journalist ran into his home through the backdoor.

A spokesman of All Manipur Working Journalists Union today condemned the incident and asked the militants to clarify if one of Singh's stories was not liked by them. He said three suspected militants followed Singh at around midnight while he was returning home and forcibly tried to enter his house while he was closing the gate.

AMWJU spokesman said if Singh's stories were not liked, they should have issued their version of the story. Official sources said police would investigate into this incident.
