Unidentified ultras fired two rifle grenades at the police station in Sopore, 55 kms from Srinagar, but both the devices exploded mid-air without causing any damage, the sources said.

Before fleeing from the scene, the militants also fired a few shots in the air, the sources said.

Police assisted by security forces immediately cordoned off the area and a hunt has been launched to nab the militants involved in the attack, the sources said.

No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the incident, which sparked panic in the town where normal activities resumed this morning following widespread protests against the killing of four persons in Baramulla town and imposition of curfew last week.
