The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports will scrutinise and evaluate all the foreign coaches brought on board for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Reiterating this, the secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sindhushree Khullar, said that only after thorough assessment and performance evaluation would the ministry take a call on whether or not the contracts of the coaches would be renewed.
“If we are satisfied with their performance then only we will renew their contracts till the 2010 Asian Games in November and thereafter,” Khullar said at a media briefing on Monday.
Khullar also made it clear the ministry was in no mood to hand over long-term contracts to foreign coaches blindly.
“Their hiring’s should be worthwhile,” she said.
“Their nature is such that we can’t afford to hire them blindly. We can’t compromise.”
Giving the example of the latest recruit, Spain’s Jose Brasa as India hockey coach, the secretary said his contract would be extended if his ‘contribution was good’.
“We now have around 30 foreign coaches. The last person to join us was Brasa,” said Khullar.
“His contract is till the 2010 Asian Games. The extension will depend on his performance with the team.”“The foreign coaches’ hiring is a two-way process. If he’s carved out a niche in the team and if the players are doing well under him then there’s no bar in continuing with him,” said Khullar.
