Miscreants kill notorious criminal

A FORTY-YEAR-OLD notorious criminal was shot dead by motorcycle-borne miscreants in front of a theatre in Mint House area under the Cantonment police station on Wednesday night. Assailants managed to flee after opening fire in air to create panic. Police have recovered half-a-dozen empty cartridges of .32 bore pistol. No one has been arrested yet.

The deceased has been identified as Razwan alias Munna Haddi, a resident of Raza bazar area and a history sheeter of Cantonment police station. The cause of murder is stated to be a fallout of a dispute with some men over a piece of land in Khajuri area.

Munna along with his friends was coming to Mint House area from his house in Raza bazar area at around 9 pm. As he neared the theatre, three youths on a motorcycle appeared. One of them opened fire on Munna from a point blank range hitting him on the temple. Munna slumped to the floor bleeding profusely.

Sensation gripped the area. Friends of Munna and other pedestrians ran for cover as soon as they heard sounds of bullets. In the meantime, the miscreants fled towards hotel India. A constable of picket duty, hearing sound of bullets, made an abortive attempt to stop the assailants.
