Missing IAF officer found in Mizoram

The Naga IAF officer Noktempong Jamir who went missing on October 7, has been found and brought back to his place of posting in Assam.

Flight Lieutenant Noktempong Jamir, who went missing last week from an Indian Air Force (IAF) training camp in Coimbatore, has been found and brought back to his place of posting in Assam. Police spotted the 26-year-old officer on Friday in a village called Selling, 30 km from Mizoram's capital Aizawl.

"During preliminary interrogation Jamir said he had somehow lost interest in his professional career and hence decided to run away," a senior Mizoram police official said.

The Naga IAF officer went missing on October 7 afternoon from Coimbatore where he was attending a 21-day training course at the IAF Administrative College. He was posted at Mohanbari near Dibrugarh in Assam. During the last few days he had called up his father and sister in Nagaland saying he was "alive" before hanging up.

IAF authorities have taken the officer to their base at Mohanbari. Flt Lt Jamir is expected to face disciplinary action or a court of inquiry for leaving the training camp without permission. "We will follow the rule book in dealing with case," Group Captain Rajan Kapoor, station commander of the Mohanbari base, said.
