Delhiites woke up to a misty morning accompanied by thin fog as the city's minimum temperature went one notch below normal.
However, visibility was clear and flights operated on schedule for the third straight day after being disrupted for two days due to dense fog.
The runway visibility was above 1,200m early in the morning and rose to well beyond 2,000 as the day set in, airport sources said. The minimum temperature dipped to 6.5 degrees Celsius in the morning and was one notch below normal for this time of the season, the weather department said.
According to the Meteorological Department, the fog situation is set to worsen in the next 72 hours. "Fresh fog has started setting over the Indira Gandhi International Airport and the condition is set to worsen in the next 72 hours. We are keeping a continuous watch on the weather," said RK Jenamani, Director of Indian Meteorological Department (IGIA unit).
"There was shallow fog at the IGIA from 9 pm on Monday to 9 am on Tuesday. The general visibility had gone down to 800m and the Runway Visual Range (RVR) was up to 1200m and Instrument Landing System was not required to be used," he said.
Jenamani said that relative humidity in the atmosphere has been constantly increasing, which results in formation of fog. The last time fog had hit the IGIA, almost all flights had got delayed throughout the day.
