Pakistan's Islamist alliance of the Muthahida Majlis Amal (MMA) on Thursday said it would not take part in the elections as long as President Pervez Musharraf remained in power.
"We will not take part in the elections as long as President Musharraf remains in power. There is no possibility of transparent elections and past record of the present rulers is witness to it," Qazi Hussain Ahmed, who heads the Islamist alliance said here.
"Rubber stamp assemblies will emerge after such elections," Ahmed said, adding that instead of taking part in the polls, his party would launch a movement against it.
Ahmed alleged that there was no possibility of holding transparent polls under the rule of Musharraf and said seat adjustments will be made with "like-minded" parties.
