Select qualifying applicants of the examination hailing from UP and Uttaranchal will participate in the counselling that will conclude on July 7.

The central counselling is being participated by all 18 National Institute of Technology (NITs), Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIITs), Allahabad and Amethi, Indian Institute of Information Technology & Management, Gwalior, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design & Manufacturing, Jabalpur, besides six self-financed Deemed Universities and 20 other institutions.

Like in the past, MNNIT has been entrusted to conduct the counselling for the applicants of UP and Uttaranchal this year too.

Seeing the mammoth influx of aspiring students, MNNIT administration has begun preparations on a war-footing for the D-Day. A meeting was recently held on June 18 at New Delhi in this regard to decide the modalities of the counselling.

"Preparations for conducting transparent and fair counselling has already begun. We are employing the best blend of human ware, software and hardware," said in-charge of counselling Prof Krishna Kant.

He informed that over 120 computer terminals will be used for the on-line counselling. A lease line of 1 mbps will be available for ensuring uninterrupted Internet connectivity for the on-line counselling.

The bandwidth, said Prof Krishna Kant, has been a concern for the on-line counselling and that is why MNNIT will make a special request to the BSNL for ensuring a flawless bandwidth availability during the counselling days.

He, however, maintained that efforts were on to access the bandwidth of software technology park which is situated within the MNNIT premises as a standby.

Former in-charge of AIEEE counselling Prof Rajeev Tripathi while throwing light over the rules and procedure of counselling said that students are required to deposit a demand draft of Rs 5000 at the computerised fee counter, thereafter the candidates proceed to the document verification counters for verification of their certificates and admit card.

"Candidates are required to bring all certificates in original along with one photocopy of each and four copies of their photograph identical to the one pasted on the application form. If the original certificates are in regional language, duly certified English version/translation of such certificates are required. With submission of fee, the log in for on-line counselling will be generated for him," added Prof Tripathi.

Clearing the mystery behind drop-out seats, Prof Tripathi said queries related to the drop-out seats are frequent. However, in order to be considered for the 'dropout' seats, candidates must also submit Form 2 on-line indicating their choices for institutions only. For the candidates who are unable to get an 'offered' seat, the Form 2 will be processed for allotment of the institution for admission without branch. The branch will be allotted later by the institution where admitted with due consideration for merit among the students joining it.

District Informatics Officer Praveen Singh said that National Informatics' Centre has completed all its preparations and the software and server to be used during the counselling have been tested.

He further informed that a team of NIC and Central Counselling Board (CCB) officials will visit MNNIT tentatively on June 24. the team will conduct training and refresher session for faculty members and other counselling staff.
