TENSION PREVAILED in the congested Ram Narayan Bazar again after several plaques of BJP MLA Salil Vishnoi were smashed by a mob early this morning. The district administration has deployed more security personnel in the area to prevent any trouble.

On the face of it, the destruction of plaques is being linked to Vishnoi’s one-sided role after violence erupted in the area on Tuesday night. But sources alleged this as a handiwork of Samajwadi Party workers aimed at deriving political mileage out of it.

Vishnoi for last three years has apparently been making inroads into predominantly Muslim pockets primarily with developmental activities and this perhaps may be a cause of constant worry for his adversaries.

His image took a beating on Tuesday night when following the violence he sided with one community and ignored the other.

Besides, his certain remarks didn’t go down well with members of a particular community who felt that as an MLA he must have had listened to their side of the story as well before jumping to a conclusion.

Carrying hammers and iron rods, the boys shattered plaques one by one before some locals intervened and prevented them from damaging more.

On getting the information senior police officials rushed to the site and met local people in an attempt to defuse the tension. The issue had a telling effect on the other side as people took to street and strongly protested the act, said eyewitnesses.

In view of the escalating tension, reinforcement was called in to Ram Narayan Bazar and strength of the Rapid Action Force personnel was doubled to meet any exigency.

Meanwhile after the Friday prayers, the namazis prayed for an early recovery of
Meraj whose condition continued to remain critical.
